Gavin Turk's work plays with ideas of identity and authenticity. By appropriating iconic imagery from both the art world and popular culture, often replacing subjects with himself, Turk toys with notions of authorship and the perceived role of the artist. His work gained him notoriety in the early 1990s and he is considered to be one of the original YBAs.
