Supported by artists such as Jake Chapman, Nathan James work is highly sought after for his artistic skill and dark sense of humour. He has also been profiled in the Guardian as a “future star of the modern art landscape” and Nathan’s paintings have been exhibited internationally in galleries from Luxemburg to Toronto. His current series of paintings, is based on the idea of subverting modern life’s most aspirational images and using them to take a grimly comic, darkly humorous look at contemporary life. Painting in oil onto canvas or linen, James takes images of Americana, advertising, pin-ups, Hollywood and traditional beauty and injects them with his own feelings towards the characters and the scenes they inhabit.
